In Germany we are like two months behind the program schedule in US (today we got EP4 on Disney+, while it's already EP11 there). Maybe I can still finish the book before the season finale here. The book is quite different from the show, at least for the part I have read.
The crossover editing of the first half was just a mess. It gets better, though. I heard that there will be a 4-hour cut soon. I just hope it will be released as a mini series.
I am actually not going to watch it. I might not like it, and I don't even want to find out. The reason I added this entry is that all ratings and reviews were just removed from 豆瓣. :-)
Watched on Mar. 24 in Cologne. I simply love how the production team made fun of toxic patriarchy. (Side note: I actually bought the ticket for Mar. 12 in Aachen but forgot to go because I went to sleep early at 9:30 already...)
Watched on Mar. 10 in Aachen. Really enjoyed it.
Between "Dead Pigs" and "The Marvels," I chose to watch "The Marvels" tonight. Rationally, it might not have been a good choice, as "Dead Pigs" leaves MUBI tonight, and "The Marvels" will likely stay on Disney+ indefinitely. But what else can I do after spending an hour learning some C programming?
Übrigens, wie sagt man "父母皆禍害" auf Deutsch? Alle Eltern sind ein Fluch?
Another odd watch today. It turns out it's a slapstick (whatever that means) short by Lynch for a French magazine TV series, "The French as Seen by...". I found Twin Peaks weird and couldn't finish it. This short is at the same level of weirdness, but fortunately, it's only about 25 minutes long. Will I get used to Lynch's signature weirdness if I continue watching his works? For now, MUBI only has Eraserhead listed, though.
The second half is… eh… weird?
A modern-day Sisyphus would not push boulders up a hill repeatedly but would lead a monotonous life, repeatedly cleaning fancy public toilets in Tokyo. In both scenarios, he should find small but certain happiness (小確幸).
This film will likely be my last at #KinoArsenal. It's sad that the cinema bar has to go in two weeks. I hope Atelier will keep going. I will likely start going to Blaue Brücke more.
Some people's character prevents them from pushing that little bit you need to push to get the work seen. You know, she didn’t defend herself as an artist. She just did the work.
It is so regrettable that a person who took over 100,000 photos can only be seen posthumously. What motivated her to took all those (quite brilliant) photos? What haunted her and made her obsessed with newspaper?
Anyway, I stumbled upon this documentary on MUBI and watched it because it will leave the platform tomorrow. It's not a bad start, or should I say, a very good one. I likely won't actively seek out and watch this kind of documentary, but I'd say I appreciate careful curation.
If there's a 5th one, I will watch it. Not that I really want to.
06:32-40
My only problem with this lovely movie is how people could read in such a dark room with only a few candles lit.
It's a story with an unreliable narrator, so determining what's real and what's not is unimportant. Just like in life itself, the crucial factor is knowing who your real enemy is. On the screen is an unhealthy level of consumerism. Outside the screen is what then?
