Music 100 Best Albums

But isn't it ironic that all those music apps can't even do album lists properly within their apps?

The two ghostwriters of Ellery Queen died on the same day, though in different years. Isn't that intriguing?

NME's 500 has less than half of the overlap with Rolling Stone's 500.

#LʌvDBUpdate: As we inch toward 500 items in a List, loading all of them at once in both the detail and update views is slow. Now, both views support pagination and can be adjusted in the update view.

Finally bought a PS Vita and Nintendo 3DS, which are still difficult to emulate for now. What amazing devices, especially the PSV. All those Android or Linux-based emulation machines are still far behind the craftsmanship of this 10-year-old machine.

I finally arrived in Tübingen and got back home at 2 am (due to a one-and-a-half-hour bus delay)! After washing, cooking, and eating, it's now 4 am. If we were still at the retreat, it would be time to meditate :D

What I learned from the 10-day Vipassana meditation course: Ten days are barely enough to scratch the surface of Vipassana (it only covers Contemplating the Body, which is one-fourth of the Satipatthana, and even that is incomplete; anatomical parts and decay after death are not covered), let alone practice it correctly. A 20-day course is probably better, in which the first ten days should be devoted to Anapana solely; however, it’s likely too much to endure for a beginner; ten days of maintaining Sila (no meat, no alcohol, no phone, and no talking) is simply no joke.

As of today, most of JDC's novels are available for borrowing and reading on the Internet Archive. The few exceptions include:

  • "The Magic Lantern Murders" (1936), aka "The Punch and Judy Murders"
  • The unabridged version of "The Third Bullet" (1937)
  • "The Judas Window" (1938), aka "The Crossbow Murder"
  • "Fatal Descent" (1939), aka "Drop to His Death"
  • "Nine—and Death Makes Ten" (1940)
  • "He Wouldn't Kill Patience" (1944)
  • "The Cavalier's Cup" (1953)

The 12-year-old me would have been thrilled at this kind of accessibility. Meanwhile, the 33-year-old me sits on the complete collection of JDC's work (finished collecting 2 years ago), yet has read none of them.

#LʌvDBUpdate: LuvDB now supports logging in with passkeys! Managing passwords is always a headache, especially since we don't record your emails, meaning you can't reset them if you forget or if there are issues with your password managers (because if something can happen, it will happen). With passkeys, the only reason you can't log in now is if you lose your devices (which is also likely to happen). Let's just hope these bad things don't all happen at once.

#LʌvDBUpdate: iOS 17.4 breaks PWAs, leaving me conflicted. I feel both glad and sad simultaneously. I invested extra effort into making LʌvDB an attractive PWA, yet the outcome was not entirely pleasing. I am removing all PWA-related code because I can no longer use it personally, and now, the code actually looks nicer. The main website no longer supports PWA, but the list randomiser can still be added as a PWA to home screen if you are not in EU. I might also remove the PWA-support for lit randomiser later.

I was hoping Gemini Ultra would be a strong GPT-4 competitor, but after a few trials, it falls short. Very short.

#LʌvDBUpdate: Finally, added a Like Button to almost all check-in-able pages. It will only show up after you checked in read/watched/listened, etc. I actually stole this idea from Hardcover.app's feature request page.
